I was a Retail Beauty Makeup Artist for over a decade. As a product specialist for luxury brands I worked on so many different faces of all ages. When I worked with clients it was mainly to teach them how to do makeup. I asked questions about their lifestyle, when they wore makeup, if they wanted to look good in photos or just for everyday.

Most importantly, I asked my clients what their preferences were. Do they like lipstick or gloss or do they want long-lasting. Do they want to focus on eyes? Do they like neutral colors or do they want to try bold and bright shades. Do they want a focus on cheeks or evening out skin tone with just the right foundation?

One thing I don’t do is gatekeep. I don’t preach about makeup do’s & dont’s. Especially when it comes to mature skin. There is no “one way” to do makeup. Techniques & trends are ever-changing. I don’t expect everyone to do makeup the way I like it. It’s all about you! In my blog & videos, I’m never going to tell you what to like.

I’m all about wearing what you want to wear and doing things the way you like. Makeup should be fun! Don’t let anyone tell you what you should and should not do! I know some people want to be told what to do, they don’t know where to start. I get that, but what you are being told isn’t what’s always going to be right for you! Everyone is different, and I feel like makeup should enhance our unique features & celebrate what is special about us as individuals.
Makeup isn’t one size fits all.

We all have different face shapes, eye shapes, skin colors, skin types and skin concerns. What’s right for you isn’t always going to be right for someone else.
I love experimenting with new looks, following seasonal trends for variety. I don’t like to do my makeup the same way all the time. I love sharing my thoughts on products by reviewing, comparing and testing them out.

I love creating wearable looks that I would be comfortable walking out into the street in. Maybe not everyone will. But I love color! I love shimmer & glitter! I love eyeliner! Makeup in your 50’s doesn’t have to always be neutral tones, lifting contours and matte eye makeup! It doesn’t have to be that complex or serious. Makeup for mature skin can be vibrant & playful and inspire joy!

I don’t use filters and try to show myself in different lighting. I want you to see what makeup actually looks like irl and not just face forward in bright lighting meant for video & photography. That kind of makeup is it’s own specialty. We all don’t have perfect skin in real life.

Young or old, unless you are a baby, we all have visible pores, lines when we smile, lines under the eyes. Current beauty standards portrayed in magazines or social media see these as imperfections, so filters, good lighting and photoshop are used to blur them out. Not makeup. Even though that’s what we see on social media, we aren’t really seeing what people look like when you are sitting next to them.

I don’t like being put in this “mature skin” box that means you have to do mature lady makeup this way. It’s so limiting. I know it’s helpful to beginners who need help with mature skin makeup, I get that. But only you can know what looks and makes you feel good!
We all have our own likes and dislikes, our personal preferences that are unique to us, There’s no need to give up what you like because someone tells you to!
